Still we struggle

This piece responds to the theme of World Events by exploring the ongoing and overlapping crisis, shaping human experience today, war, poverty, mental health , rising cost of living and political division all collide in this work- symbolised through figures, objects and textures that reflect colllective struggle. At the Heart is a curled figure burdened by the weight of the world. Around them a mother holding child, solders, an empty sopping trolley, energy monster, protest flags, a floating newspaper floating in the flood lands and walls marked by trauma speak to displacement, survival resistance and hope. Running quietly through the composition is my metaphor hidden somewhere in the piece - the washing machine. Life in today’s world can feel like being trapped inside it, spinning relentlessly, being thrown around by force we did not choose, unable to stop or breathe. It’s a metaphor for overwhelm , but also for desire to come out, cleaner, clearer and sometimes whole. The title “ still we struggle” captures both exhaustion and the persistence of the human spirit, strength to fight, strength to keep going even if the days seem much harder.
